Style & Structure

The Dead Woods is a game about a man and his son, go unto The Amagash Woods in Idaho, to camp out. That night, as they're sleeping, a noise wakes up the young boy. He slowly creeps up and steps outside to look. 


The next thing that happens is a shrieking scream from the child, waking up suddenly, seeing that his child is no longer there, runs outside to find out what's going on. This is where the game starts, as the father trying to find where his son is. 


The game itself is a short game "Proof of concept", of a game. Lost and winding pacts, loops, horror visages, illusions, ghosts, insanity effects, a few jumpscares here and there.

This game is not just about a forest, but different sections showing different parts, including a mine, a railway cemetery, an abandoned cabin, maybe an abandoned logging mill?

Background Story

An avid camper, Joseph, a single father of a 8 year old, wanted to be close to his child, having not had a close father figure himself. This trip he planned for a few weeks, getting everything ready and set to camp out, maybe fish and explore, bonding closer to his kid and letting him experience a great time.


The Amagash woods (or how they are very little known "Dead Woods") have had many things linked to them, including ghosts, spirits, creatures, cries, whispers, talking trees, an air apparent as you dwell further into the woods, of a sickening evil. 


The further outer parts of the woods have always been safe and have usually been quiet and tranquil, until now.

Main Scenario

You, as the main character (Joseph), are outside your tent, as your first "mission" flashes by you (Find out what happened to your son). As clues fall in, the next mission flashes by.

Joseph - The Father, 26 years old, a former firefighter, divorced.

Child (Adam) - 6 years old, child of Joseph and Elizabeth (mom)

Vehicle 1

Truck - Joseph's Truck - A ford type of pickup truck.

Building 1

Mine - an abandoned mine, who's further section collapsed during the gold rush and killed several people.

Building 2

Train cars, part of a railroad cemetery, which were abandoned after a mysterious derailing, and served as an early dumping ground for rail cars.

Building 3

Cabin - a dilapidated cabin deep in the woods, built in 1856 by a family, who's father was a miner, was the site of a murder suicide by the mother after the father was part of a mine collapse.

Axe - Woodworker's Axe, found in the cabin, owned by the father who was lost and died in the mine.

Obsidian Black Tablet - Etched in a dead language.
