After some mischief and stealing, you, a young, rebellious girl get caught and brought straight to the door of the Witch's den. You know it means nothing good. Life on the street was hard, but learning the art of witchcraft is beyond hard. And she, the witch, isn't helping you either, with her unfriendly behaviour and nasty comments. It is up to you to learn how to survive in the new situation. Work hard, and it will pay off, they would say - and so you follow the advice - you slowly adapt and learn everything you need to know - all about witches, their profession, ingredients collection, potion making, ritual attempting...

Main Character

The main character is a young, rebellious girl who is forced to stay with a witch and learn everything about the profession and witchcraft in general.

Backstory:

The main character is rebellious, young girl who went through a lot in her life. She originally lived in one of houses in near the market, but when her father passed away and mother left, the girl was forced to move out to the slum area outside of the walls and live with her aunt who she barely saw in her entire life.

The life forced her to live on the edge - she started to follow other children who would constantly steal food, clothes and jewelery in order to survive. She didn't have much choice. It was either that or something far, far worse.

She wasn't the greatest thief. She was caught so many times that everyone in the marketplace knew her. Some would chase her off on sight, while some more generous people would "accidentally" drop food on the floor for her to pick up.

After a while, she became a problem for her aunt, so she got rid of her - by bringing her to the witch, hoping she would take her in.

Design:

Small, skinny girl with short, curly hair that are hard to control and bounce around as she walks. Her eyes are in the color of honey mixed with amber - but it's nothing unusual, as it is a common eye color in the game's world.

She wears something that could be considered a black dress and shoes that are size too big.

Personality:

She is a brave, independent girl who had to learn new things as her life shifted from nice to miserable. She is energetic, and even though she doesn't like her new situation and the company of the witch, deep inside she is glad that somebody finally cares about her.

The Witch

The Witch is a second main character - she plays a role of a mentor to the main character. In the game world, she is possibly one of the last few witches, and therefore is a bit lonely. Always lived far away from everyone, so got so used to her own little world that she has no idea how to deal with this young girl who she has to take care of, and on top of that, teach her everything... How do you teach someone who doesn't want to learn?!

Design:

The Witch is believed to be hundred-eighty-three years old and one of the last of her kind. She is a tall female with long silvery-grey hair braided loosely, with few strands framing her pale face. Her eyes are one of the more noticeable features of her body - they are in bland icey color, with almost white pupils. Whether she can physically see is unknown. Her lips look like they had been drained of all blood, while still keeping up the same.

Her body is covered in mysterious tattoos, some look like runes or long forgotten glyphs, while others are just lines of text in unrecognizable, handwritten form. Piercings also decorate her body, but they are mostly located on her face - they are proof of the rituals and summonings she succeeded in.

In her own hut, she usually wears heavy material, ragged fabrics stitched together that she wraps around her body in various ways and patterns. When she leaves her home, she can be seen wearing additional cape in dirty gold color.

Personality:

Her personality is one big mystery. She seems to be a grumpy old lady in a body of a woman in her early thirties, but is that entirely true? The truth is, she is lonely and not used to having people around her. As she is one of the last few witches alive, she gets a lot of attention from people who want to buy her own goods, but deep inside are scared of her, which really doesn't help her. She rarely smiles, but sometimes, just if you are lucky, you can see a glimpse of happiness or laughter in her unusual eyes.

Some of her speeches:

"You are possibly the worst I've ever trained."

"Girl, bring me the [Plant name]. Find it in the book and bring it back to me. Quickly."

What other characters think or say about her:

"She is a pleasure"

"Half of her herb garden was for cooking. The other half would kill you. Sometimes she used both in the same dish."

"You couldn't handle her even if she came with instructions."

"She is worth whatever chaos she brings to this village... And you all know it."

The Merchants

Merchants are non-playable characters who specialise in buying, selling and trading goods. At the start, the game will hopefully have two of those - one would sell and buy materials and ingredients, while the other one would be more interested in buying potions and finished witchy products.

NPC #1:

The shopkeeper welcomes you with warm "Ah, hello there young lass. How can I help you today?

This character is an older man with face that went through a lot - scars and bruises blend together to form unpleasant view, but once he smiles, his eyes light up.

He wears a tunic with leather belts wrapped around his waist and dark trousers, slightly teared at the bottom, but it's mostly covered by high, heavy boots.

NPC #2:

The lady welcomes you with hurried and annoyed voice, "Finally you came! I got a whole line of people wanting potions, move, move, pack them out!"

Unfriendly, but rich woman who buys almost any type of potion to later sell it to noble families who would never use the services of the Witch.

Wears long dress in navy colors and six different types of necklaces to show off her wealth.

Level Design

Below is the list and description of sections that fall into level design.

Locations

Description and position of the locations on the map.

The Village
The village is a place full of life with its population of over two hundred people. Small wall made out of stone bricks surrounds the territory, buMarket, located roughly in the middle of the town is a busy place full of stands, shops and merchants yelling to buy their goods. Medium-sized wall made of stone bricks surrounds and shows the territory of this small village. It doesn't really provide any defense, as a grown man can jump over the top of it, but villagers don't seem to be bothered by this, and never raised it any higher. Maybe because it would block the view? What they did do is build few towers, but even they aren't very tall. As the population grows, so does the town. Some new buildings had been built outside of the walls - a tavern with few rooms for the travellers, as well as some farm houses and shanty shacks. The residents say it's not the safest place to be - thieves, murderers, troublemakers and a lot more live there. Inside of the town, there are a lot more houses, shops and craftmen's workshops, as well as a market and a temple. The Market is one of the most loud places in the village - merchants and travellers try to promote their goods by yelling and calling over the clients.
Forest
Forest surrounds the village, but the trees nearest to the border had been cut down, leaving visible, clear terrain that can be used for farming or livestock.
River
The river is located to the north of the village, few kilometers away. As the stream goes, there are some parts that are considerably wider than others, while in other parts, it splits into many tiny strands that later on join together.
The mountains
The mountain range is clearly visible from the village and is to the west.
