Gidgie Girl

Gidgie Girl

Created by © ACC CIS 289 Fall 2021

Gidgie Girl guards her yard from all intruders while trying to dodge acorns thrown from the tree by the impish squirrel. Help her keep the yard safe and that silly squirrel in the tree where it belongs!

This project is to develop a game that children can play easily. Forced breaks from the game will occur at appropriate intervals that asks the child to have a parent help them look outside for particular objects (a tree, a bird, a flower, etc.). The game should help develop hand-eye coordination.

Story

Gidgie keeps her yard in order! When Stray Cat tries to get in her yard, she runs Stray Cat out! She barks at Strat Cat until it decides to go away. When the leaves blow in her yard, she barks at them and chases them until they settle down.

Bird watches Gidgie and will swoop down to pester Gidgie. Gidgie runs back and forth barking at Bird and dodging when Bird dive bombs to bonk Gidgie on the head.

Every now and then wily Squirrel will will sneak down in the yard to bury some acorns. Squirrel has to hurry because Gidgie will bark and chase him until he is back up the tree where he belongs!

Squirrel gets his revenge by throwing acorns at Gidgie as she goes about her duties. Gidgie has to dodge the acorns or she will have to sit down while the hurt goes away. This gives the Cat and Bird and Leaves and Squirrel an opportunity to play in the yard until Gidgie recovers.

While Gidgie recovers the player is encouraged to get their parent and go outside to look for a tree where a squirrel might live. Or, perhaps, find a bird nest where Bird might live. By the time the player gets back in, Gidgie is ready to be back at it!
