Outdoor Forest Survival Game

Outdoor Forest Survival Game

Created by Jordan Dempsey

Game Introduction

The general idea of the game is where the player becomes lost in a survival situation and must adapt in order to survive. The player must quickly learn how to do well in the wilderness. The player must find food and water, defend him/herself and find a way to reach civilization.

Genre
Outdoor Survival
GamePlay
First person, open world, fighting hunger and dehydration, survival and story progression.
Target audience & platforms
People between the ages of 16-40
Look and Feel
I want the game to very cinematic but also require problem solving

Story

The story of the game is set in a dense remote jungle. The player starts the game when he/she gets lost from his/her hiking group. The player starts the story frantically search for help but it is short lived, the wilderness shows its danger very quickly and the player must adapt fast in order to survive.

How to Play

The game will be first-person. The player will use WASD and space bar to move and jump and the mouse will be used to look around. The player may also have an inventory and a map which could be accessed by pressing I and M.

Technical

The game will be made for PC and will be played through the Unity engine.

User Interface (controls)

The game will be first person. The player will be controlled using WASD to move and space bar could be used to jump. The player will use the mouse to look around and will click the mouse to interact with objects and tools. Also, I think I will use I to access the inventory and M to access a map.

Artwork (design)

The game will have a HUD, items such as weapons and tools will need to be developed and also I would like to add a map system.

Heads Up Display (HUD)

The HUD will be displayed on screen. I want to have a few things, firstly I want a dot on the screen to indicate where the player is looking. Then, I would like the HUD to display health, items equipped at that time, hunger and dehydration and I would also like it to display a map.

Characters

The game will only feature one main character. The main character is the player itself.

Character 1

The main character is the player itself. The game will be first person so the character will mainly be seen through the eyes of himself. I do not want the character to look very drastic in any sort of way. I want the character to have normal hair, average build and be dressed in regular hiking-style clothing.

Level Design

The buulk of the game's levels will be dense forest. I want the forest to be very strange and mysterious. I want there to be multiple pathways, some that dont lead anywhere important, in order to make the game difficult and confusing to navigate. I want the player to have the feeling that he/ she is actually trapped in a forest.

In terms of levels other than dense forest, I want there to be some sort of cave in the game. Maybe during some sort of mission or maybe this is where the player sleeps.

At the end of the game when the player finds civilization, there will have to be a level that slowly transitions into some sort of village or road. This is where the game will conclude.

Global Elements

I want the map of the world to be very large. Boundaries that will keep the player inside will be natural objects such a dense trees, mountains, fallen trees and other natural obstructions. The camera will be first person and I would like the trees to be very high and dense. I would like the forest to be very lively so I would like to add things such as wind and maybe rain.

Player View

The game will be played in first person. The camera will be at eye level pf the player and the camera wwill follow his/her movements. The camera may drift as if the player is looking at something during significant events.

Development

1. Concept art and sketching

2. World design

3. Player and object design

4. Sound design

5. Story line development

7. Coding

6. Finishing touches

Abstract Classes/Components

One abstract component to the game will be the idea of materials and crafting. I would like to add this to the game but I can imagine that it would be a bug task.

Audio & Sound F/x

For the audio design, I would like to create a combination of player and world elements that will create a very a certain mood. I want the player to feel the same panic that someone in a survival situation would.

Player Elements

-Breathing sounds

-Groans and screams

-Coughing

-Mumbling to him/herself

Global Elements

-Background music(piano)

-Trees and bushes rustling

-Walking on grass and branches

-Animals

-Rain and/or storm

-Rivers

Menu Fx

The sounds for menus such as inventory will be a very basic sound. For navigating the menu there will a short switch sound and then for selection a similar sound.
